2012 Day 19. Chris Letang is scheduled to play for the Pens tonight but Aaron Asham is out with a concussion. HDNet has entered into a branding agreement with parties that have absolutely nothing to do with MMA and so I fear the long term will kill MMA. HDNet carrys most of the smaller promotions as well as Inside MMA with Bas Rutan all good for the sport and fans.
2012 Day 11. When my duties in those avenues are finished for the day I fill the rest of my spare time with reading comic books, listening to and recording podcasts and following and watching matches in the MMA world.
Recently a couple instances have been used to support a contention that I don’t think I necessarily agree with. Several podcasts have been in support of things drawing ‘eyeballs’ to the sport. The recent developments that have floated this concept to the top of the MMA podcasting world are the recent retirement of Brock Lesnar and the announcement that CM Punk will accompany Chael Sonnen to the ring in an upcoming bout. Curiously both are wrestling personas but that is for another discussion.
My concern is that the ‘eyeballs’ that those two figures bring to the sport may not be the kinds of ‘eyeballs’ we want nor can the sport entertain them. Wrestling is a very different sport when compared to MMA. The former is scripted while the later most certainly is not. This I think is the difference that will prevent most of the fans of the wrestling soap opera from being interested in the long term and they will leave after having been counted as fans which will in tern make it appear as though MMA is loosing its audience.
The recent partnership with the UFC, the pre-eminent MMA promotion and the Fox family of networks will offer fans worldwide their best opportunity to date to watch and hopefully be entertained by the sport. The last thing we real fans need are the band wagon fans to come on, be counted by Fox and then leave showing a false negative in MMA interest.
MMA doesn’t need outside names like the two aforementioned personalities as well as Herschel Walker, Kimbo Slice and Steven Segal to be our banner carriers. Instead names like Bas Rutan, Gina Carano and Jon Jones do and will continue to represent MMA in a more sustainable manner. In the end let MMA culture their own ‘faces’ and not count on outside ‘heels’ to represent the sport
Battle Scars 3, Hulk 4, Journey into Mystery 633, Scarlet Spider 1, Wolverine 300, Wolverine and the X-men 4, X-Factor 230 and X-Men Legacy 260.1 are all top of the stack today followed by the latest installment of the DCnU.
2012 Day 10 It sure has been fun playing with the anesthesia today. There have been a few more post symptoms related to it then the first time I had this particular procedure (colonoscopy).
Teri and I are trying to figure out dinner. We don't really want to cook and the two places that deliver are not appealing plus I don't feel like going out but neither do I want Teri to have to go out. Quite the conundrum.
Dobie bread has to be one of the ten best things God has ever gifted humans. DANG!
It appears as though our son Nick is going to fix my Dad something this weekend. It will be the first time Dad has sampled something Nick has cooked.
So much sleeping off anesthesia today and at 10.30 I am totally not sleepy.
2012 Day 7. Wow I just told one of my sons no about something and now I get to deal with feeling like the lousiest parent in the world until the Devil gets tired and moves on. Just one of the many sides of being a parent.
Update it took most of the day to get past but I did. Yay!
Dude next week is the first year anniversary of mine and Teri's wedding.
So on top of my failures discussed in the post previous I am considering a photograph a week project.
Hopin to record a Thorcast tonite and a Ronin Rabbit tomorrow. That way I can send in those two and a Dance Fevre next week to be posted.
Lookin forward to being able to watch a Strikeforce event live tonite. Showtime has a free trial this weekend, coolness.
First the Mummy 3 and then Hellboy 2, dang good movie day.
I started a Photo a week project over on G+ lets see if I can keep that one going.
2012 Day 6. So in a massive show of how undisciplined I am this is the third straight day of no bicycle and I didn't blog last night so there ya go. The two main things I mentioned I wanted to keep up with and less then I week later I'm a slack ass.
2012 Day 3. Just finished a pretty straight forward inner of fish and chips but man was it good. Roughie fried in a batter of Teri's recipe, with homemade tartar sauce and some seasoned fries. Dang, I like gettin fat.
Watchin the Sugar Bowl and rootin for Michigan to woop up on the Hokies. Being in this part of the state I hear more abour VT then WVU and in bugs me.
Ride the bike was the hardest its been today. The tendons in the backs of my knees are very sore and it's enuff to make me not want to move but I did it.
2012 Day 2. Hit the bicycle today and recorded two and posted three podcasts. So far my 'resolutions' are still in play with this blog post so I suppose that's a good thing.
Teri used her new panini press for lunch and dinner today and both meals were note worthy. Small pat on the back for getting that for her for Christmas.
Ratcheting up the comic book reading also over the holidays. Spider Island, Daredevil and DCnU month 2. I must say it feels good to sit here reviewing all the things that I have accomplished today. I also am indulging in another of my loves as I compose this...watching college football.
Still considering brushing of the Marvel Bronze Age podcast with a co-host or doing it solo, either way I think I want to start it up again.
Over the Holidays teri and I also managed to watch UFC 140 and 141 meaning that we have caught all for the calendar year 2011 as well as shows from smaller promotions throughout the year Titan FC, Strikeforce, Bellator and Tachi Palace fights.
Wow just heard about a major building in my hometown of Beckley WV burned down this evening. Lots of memories about the area and the many establishments housed with in.
This is me and my attempt and a daily blog. Not too sure if I can keep it going but I am going to try and we shall see. In that vein I make claims as to the linearness of the following posts. They may turn out to be anything from stream of consciousness to directed thought and everything in between.
2012 day 1. Started a weight lose program today and so far it is working out quite well, after half a day that is.
I think I lack discipline. I often say I'm an idea man, it's my follow through that is lacking. Once an idea cools of it has always been difficult for me to keep after it. I'm not sure if it is a diagnoseable concern or what exactly it says about me.
I have never had anyone point it out as a fault but then maybe that's because I never get far enough into anything for folks to notice I have stopped it.
I want to podcast but my motivation has been flagging lately and I think its because that 'hobby' has fallen victim to the above.
I'm tired of being fat and my attempts to loose weight have also fallen victim to the above, above.
